One of the perks of living in the GreenHouse is that we get a budget to put on certain events or projects throughout the semester. One of the things we've planed was a SkillShare, which happened a few weeks back (I'm a little behind, woops!). Basically, a SkillShare is just a series of workshops where people share skills! Just like that! The event started as a free set of classes, but, unfortunately, now some of them cost money. They have one in most big cities annually, including Austin! Anyway, we kept ours a free event and asked around the community and within the house if anyone had any skills they'd like to share. It was actually a pretty successful event. We had a good 50 people attend, mostly DIS students, but a few people from the food co-op we work out came out as well! I know I had a wonderful time and think it's one of the coolest ideas...
Jess taught knitting (and everyone who came, learned how to knit! No big deal)
Bike repair
How to work a co-op bag! (we get some interesting veggies in our weekly bag, so Meg and Kalli shared some recipes we've had success with)
All natural facemasks with Mel
Painting!
Beet dyeing!
I think everyone had a good time, and hopefully left with some new skills...
